Amalgam Collection Lotus 97T (1985) Portugese GP 1:8
The Lotus 97T powered stuff of legends, Ayrton Senna, to his maiden Grand Prix victory at Estoril in 1985. The wet conditions were reportedly abysmal, with fellow driver, Patrick Tambay who raced for the Renault team claiming that ‘it was a nightmare….It was survival of the fittest’. Winning by over a minute, this was Senna’s second race for Lotus and only his seventeeth Grand Prix. Speaking of the race later in his career, Ayrton said ‘People later said that my win in the wet at Donington in ’93 was my greatest performance - no way! … It was a good win, sure, but, compared with Estoril ‘85, it was nothing, really.’ This was to be the first of his impressive 41 Grand Prix victories.*In total, the Lotus 97T scored three victories, two second places and four third places. In addition, it claimed eight pole positions and three fastest laps.
