South African Dave Charlton acquired 72/3 from Team Lotus for the 1972 season, after two seasons as Reine Wisell’s Works car. Entered in four Grand Prix as a Lucky Strike car, Charlton and his team were unable to get the car to the finish, which goes to show just how demanding the type 72 could be and what a great job the Team Lotus mechanics were doing.
